What? - European Exposure 2008 Photo/Video Retreat
Where? - Austria, Hungary and Spain
When? - June 23rd - July 4th, 2008

  • European Exposure 2008 is a ten-day retreat in Austria, Hungary and Spain for journalism and photography teachers, their spouses, and anyone else who'd like to learn how to be a better photographer or videographer. Participants will depart from New York JFK airport on June 23, 2008 and return to the U.S. on July 4, 2008.  Workshop participants are not required to be a teacher or education professional. The trip will require a considerable amount of walking and climbing stairs, and the age of the house we’re staying in means it isn’t handicap accessible. If you’re planning to attend, please make note of these things if they could be an issue for you. All attendees will need a valid US Passport. For more passport information click the "Passport" link to the right.
  • Attendees will be required to share rooms in the convent and in hotels with at least one other attendee. We'll do our best to match attendees with roommates we feel they'll be compatible with. There are a very limited number of single rooms available, and they'll be assigned on a first-paid-first-served basis. The same will apply to rooms with balconies. Couples will be assigned their own private rooms in both the convent and in hotels.
  • We welcome spouses/friends/relatives to the retreat. They will be assessed the same fees as outlined for advisers/instructors. Children 15 and over are also welcome, but please be advised that no special activities will be planned for them, and they will need to be under your supervision at all times. Children will also be assessed the same fees as outlined for advisers/instructors.
  • Breakfast will be provided daily. Lunch and dinner will be provided on some days, but all other meals are your responsibility to purchase. Meals provided by the retreat are home-cooked, and the local cuisine is decidedly not low-fat. Special dietary concerns will be difficult to address.
  • You’ll travel with the group in nine-passenger vans. Drivers will be provided, but individual travel requests will be difficult to accommodate due to the group nature of the workshop. Participants will be given ample free time in Vienna and Madrid for sightseeing, shopping, etc. Attendees will use public transportation such as streetcars, buses and subways to move around Vienna and Madrid. On days the group spends in the countryside, time will be slightly more structured unless otherwise noted.
  • Medical facilities in Austria and Spain are extremely modern, and will always be a short distance away from our location. Prescriptions are more difficult to obtain, however, so be sure to bring an adequate supply of any medications you may need.
  • This trip will require a large amount of walking, and streets/sidewalks in Europe aren't always flat and even-surfaced. Please take this into consideration when deciding if you should sign up for the workshop. The house you'll be staying in is not handicap accessible and climbing stairs will be a daily requirement.
  • Smoking inside the convent or the group vehicles is strictly prohibited.
